This is a simple story of a simple, scrupulous and well-organized Mr. Ferret. A simple Mr. Ferret? What does that mean, you ask? Is it something in the posture of his ferret body? No his simplicity was manifested in something else – that everything is clear to him. After all, how could it be otherwise? Everything in life has rules, and he loves nothing so much as routine and firm boundaries of what-ifs.
Mr. Ferret, of course, has his very structured and responsible job – he is the inspector of happiness in his galaxy. Every morning he puts on a white shirt, which he buttons all the way up to his chin. Then he reaches for a perfectly fitted vest, a black bow tie and a tailcoat. Everything is, of course, clean and perfectly ironed. He polishes, and then slips black slippers on his feet, kisses Mrs. Ferret on the cheek for “goodbye,” takes his cylinder and monocle, and so neatly dressed, point 8:00 he leaves for work.
And he has an unusual job – tailored to himself, where rules must be followed. He grabs his furry, well-groomed tail, corrects his monocle and magically transports himself to another part of his world, where he checks and analyzes whether those who live there have their needs met and feel happy. On earth we have humans, and there were houses living there <span style=font-weight: 400; data-mce-style=font-weight: 400;>W tej niezwykłej krainie, domy, zwane Daffodil Houses, odgrywają kluczową rolę w życiu mieszkańców. Każdy z nich, obdarzony osobowością, wyraża emocje i pragnienia swoich lokatorów. – they were the ones with stories, feelings and adventures.
As with everything, Mr. Ferret tests their happiness level in a simple way – according to a pre-created instruction. Wondering what it looks like?
Each color is assigned to a feeling and tells whether the needs of the house are being met. Yellow stands for joy, blue for carefreeness Każdy kolor pełni istotną rolę w ocenie emocjonalnego stanu mieszkańców. , white for calm. There are also colors on the list that tell you that the house is missing something: red indicates anger, black indicates sadness, and rotten green indicates fear.
And there are countless colors and feelings in the instructions. Mr. Ferret has the entire list in his black leather notebook, along with a list of houses to visit and evaluate. The list with the addresses poof… magically appears in the notebook every day at exactly 8:00 a.m. Simple, isn’t it!
And so Mr. Ferret straightened up, groomed and made his way to yet another magical land to check out the houses on his list today. The place was exceptionally beautiful! Everything was located on a tiny, round planet with only a few streets. When he got here, the sky was orange and pink, like those at our most beautiful sunsets. That wasn’t the only thing that delighted Mr. Ferret! There were other planets visible from there. They were close enough to wave at the neighbors living there.
Standing on the main street and looking around, one could see everything Mr. Ferret loves – perfectly trimmed lawns, sorted garbage and symmetrical sidewalks. Everything clean, repainted and well-kept.
– Ah, everyone must be happy here! Such order and tidiness! – thought Mr. Ferret
However, in accordance with the rules, he opened his black leather notebook on the inventory of today’s houses and directed his step towards them to see how they were doing in this remarkable land. There were six houses. Little, right? But after all, the land was also small. Anyway, so what? The neighboring beautiful, colorful globes and their inhabitants are right next door.
And so with his evenly paced steps he reached the first cottage and begins to speak:
– Oh good morning Daffodil House! I am the inspector of happiness in our galaxy and I am checking how you are doing. You have a beautiful yellow color facade. I take it you’re happy and that’s how I should label you in the galactic inventory?
And the Daffodil House only looked uncertainly, closed and opened the shutters and tilted the roof slightly and was already about to open the door and start talking, when Mr. Ferret smiled and shouted joyfully:
– Oh how wonderful that you nodded to me! I haven’t seen such a beautifully arranged land for a long time! Also I mark – yellow, joyful! Of course, according to the instructions!
And satisfied, he marched on, taking his perfectly even steps, and the Daffodil House was only puzzled, because, after all, he didn’t even say anything. He just swung the curtain and let Inspector Ferret walk away. He almost jumped up, he went to the next houses and inspected each of them in the same way.
Oh what a wonderful day! All six houses wonderfully yellow. Oh how easy this job of mine is! How wonderful that everyone is so happy here!
He just waved to everyone at the end, grabbed his furry, well-groomed tail, corrected his monocle and moved in a split second to the office. A split second, that’s faster than you can blink an eye!
The houses, meanwhile, just looked at each other and shrugged their chimneys in surprise.
And in the office, Mr. Ferret flew immediately, without a moment’s hesitation, to his boss with conclusions and charts. He corrected his monocle and his cylinder, grunted and knocked.
– Please come in -” Mr. Gorilla’s low and firm voice came from the depths of the office.
Mr. Ferret entered and began to present the results of today’s inspection:
– 100%! 100% of happy yellow houses on one planet in our galaxy! Something like this I have never seen! Beautiful skies, beautiful lawns!
And he probably would have continued talking so excitedly, if not for the fact that
Mr. Gorilla interrupted him and started asking questions. The questions, on the other hand, were inquisitive, because the gray, hairy and confident Mr. Gorilla with his keen eyesight and mind saw that it was always necessary to check the accuracy of the results. He corrected, therefore, his tie, which curled slightly under his jacket, and started a conversation:
– Good morning Mr. Ferret. I am pleased to see you in such a good mood! I’d like to know some details of the case. What exactly did the houses say?
– What did they say? After all, it is clear! That they are very happy in our galaxy!
– This I understand Mr. Ferret, but what exactly makes them so happy?
– But how simple it is! This order, this arrangement, these views! – replied Mr. Ferret
– Did they use these words exactly?
– Yyyy…. and Mr. Ferret got confused, lowered his head gently and blushed slightly from embarrassment. He had just realized that he had not allowed any of the houses to say even a word. That’s how excited he was. – I’m sorry, they actually just blinked their shutters and tilted their roofs for confirmation, but I’m sure, really sure, that’s exactly what they felt!
– Mr. Ferret, please complete the inventory with the exact words of the houses. Please ask what is causing their feelings and the colors of their facades. After all, we can find out from them what they did to be so strongly yellow, and consider whether we should provide training in this regard for other houses in the galaxy.
Mr. Ferret has already come out of the boss’s office in smaller jumps and slightly confused.
– I don’t understand. Such a simple matter, and to complicate it so much – he thought, although he felt under his skin that the boss was right and the subject needed to be investigated more thoroughly. So he grabs his furry, well-groomed tail, corrects his monocle and is already back on the tiny round planet with yellow houses and where the sky is orange-pink.
He walks up to the first of them again and says:
– Good morning once again Daffodil House. I wanted to ask more, what are you doing that makes you so cheerful?
– Good morning Mr. Ferret. And from what do you conclude that I am cheerful? – The house was honestly surprised.
– By the beautiful yellow facade, the trimmed lawn and the beautiful view you are looking at with your eyes-windows – replied the already quite embarrassed Mr. Ferret.
– Oh, after the yellow facade?! Yes, I try to keep it that way, because on the opposite planet there is a galactic kindergarten and apparently the stars, comets and space dust playing there like this color the most. Only in the evening I show my rotten green nature.
– Rotten-green-fearful? – Mr. Ferret was surprised – and why do you have one?
– Ah, Mr. Ferret… Let me invite you for a tea, if you have time, I will tell you everything.
And Mr. Ferret went inside and spent a long time listening to what the Daffodil House had to say. At the end of this visit he said:
– Oh, I understand everything now! I am very sorry for your story and the fact that I judged you so quickly, without even trying to hear or understand what you have to say.
– Nothing happened, Mr. Ferret. After all, we know that the rules of instruction are simple at this point. You know what… before, I used to adopt a yellow facade only for kindergarteners, but now after this conversation, surprisingly I feel much less rotten green and a little more yellow. I was so relieved to finally be able to tell what was tickling and scratching at me inside. It’s been a long time since anyone listened to me so carefully and with such interest. Thank you! You can safely leave the yellow on the register.
Mr. Ferret felt a little confused and promised to look in from time to time for more talks over tea. He lightly lifted the cylinder in farewell and went to talk to other houses. To his surprise, it turned out that there were all sorts of colors among them: red-angry, blue-careless, black-sad, there was also yellow-joyful, and one of them was even multicolored! Mr. Ferret didn’t even know that such existed! After all, it was not in the instructions.
The houses did not show the color of the facade, reflecting their feelings for very different reasons. There was one that was ashamed of its true color, another didn’t even know what colour it really was and simply matched to the others, another wanted to encourage passersby, another simply didn’t want everyone in the distance to know how they felt. Each house had its own reason. It’s even possible that they didn’t give all the reasons for the color change to Mr. Ferret and left part of the story for future meetings.
However, all the houses thanked the inspector at the end for taking the time to talk to them and for trying to really hear and understand them. Even the one that really had a daffodil-yellow facade thanked him.
For the first time, Mr. Ferret thought that not everything is as simple as it seems. He waved to the houses, thanked them for trusting him and sharing their stories, and then grabbed his furry, well-groomed tail, corrected his monocle and returned to the office to discuss everything with Mr. Gorilla.
He knocked gently on the boss’s room, and when the boss invited him in, Mr. Ferret began to tell him everything in detail. Mr. Gorilla only smiled gently under his black nose. So gently, in fact, that Mr. Ferret didn’t even notice it. Mr. Gorilla was reminded of when he himself was still an inspector and came with a similar report to his boss. So why didn’t he tell Mr. Ferret right away?
Its simple! He wanted Mr. Ferret to find out on his own what led him to judge the happiness level of the houses too quickly!
